More About TwinningTwinning is for EveryoneIt's for the young, not so young, families, single people and anyone with an interest in making friends with people from different countries. It could be especially interesting to young people who are learning a language, as it will give them an insight into the way of life of the people in their twin town Above all, it’s FUN!The whole objective is to promote friendship through enjoyable activites involving the three towns. There are regular yearly exchange visits between the three towns and special events arranged from time to time. Of course you only get out of it what you are prepared to put in so, to get the most, join in all the activities that are laid on and you should have a good time. Can't speak the language? That doesn't really matter, though you may find a dictionary useful sometimes. To join the AssociationE-mail the treasurer, Terry Piper, twinshaftesbury@uwclub.net, and he will send you application and standing order forms. Then return it to him with your subscription, which is only £6 per year for a single person or £10 for a whole family, preferably using the standing order form. You will receive a quarterly Newsletter and be asked if you would like to participate in any of the exchanges. Exchange VisitsShaftesbury visits one town and receives the other each year. So this year we hope to receive Brionne (date to be arranged) and go to Lindlar in April/May. Next year we'll go to Brionne and receive Lindlar on dates still to be arranged. The details of each visit are published in the newsletter and on this site. Basically, you say you'd like to participate and the Accomodation Officer finds a host or guests as appropriate. Most twinners find that after a visit they want to receive their hosts next year and often long lasting friendships develop. |
