PARISH MAINTENANCE UNITS

The Parish Maintenance Units form an important part of the County Council's highway maintenance strategy to enable borough, town and parish councils to request non-urgent maintenance works on roads , footways and public rights of way within their areas.

Everyone notices small niggling problems on roads, footways, verges and public footpaths but which are not necessarily urgent. This may include:

  • Repair of road signs
  • Tarmacing small areas of road or footway
  • Installing bollards or drainage gullies
  • Constructing and repairing stiles
  • Unblocking drainage gullies
  • Undertaking carriageway edge repairs
  • Sign cleaning and removing vegetation from signs.

You can report roads defects to Shaftesbury Town Council who will build up a list for the next Parish Maintenance Unit visit. Alternatively you can call Dorset Direct on 01305 221000 or report online via their website http://maps.dorsetforyou.com/countryside/reportproblem/.
