Finding Shaftesbury

By Car By Car

From London: The M3/A303 is the most direct route from London, a distance of about 120 miles; the route continues on to the south west.  The A30 is also a direct, if slower, route via Salisbury.

From the North: The main road entering Shaftesbury from the North is the A350.  From the M4, head south through the Wiltshire villages of Chippenham and Trowbridge on the A350, then via Warminster direct to Shaftesbury.

From the South: Shaftesbury is less than 1 hour north from Poole/Bournemouth; just follow the A350 north via Blandford Forum.  Alternatively, from the South West follow the main A303, and turn off via Gillingham, Dorset; Shaftesbury is just a further 5 miles away.

By Train By Rail

There is a direct train connection to Gillingham (Dorset) from London Waterloo (approx. 2 hours) and Exeter (approx. 1 hour).  An alternative route is by train from Waterloo to Poole on the south coast, followed by a bus connection north into the district.

There are direct National Express coaches running to Shaftesbury and Gillingham from London and Heathrow Airport, daily.

From Bournemouth Aiport Flying

Follow the signs from Bournemouth to Poole via the A31, then get onto the A350 Blandford Road north and follow this through to Blandford. Stay on this road and it will take you directly to Shaftesbury.  www.flybournemouth.com   

From Bristol Airport Flying

Come out of Bristol heading south east toward Bath on the A4. Continue on to the A36 through Bath, all the way to Warminster. Then take the A350 south at Warminster which will bring you straight into Shaftesbury. www.bristolairport.co.uk
